Superintendent Kirk Shrum explained the impact of this partnership:  “It is great to let students and families know that if they stay focused on their education and grades, we have an amazing university in UC Merced, who wants our students to learn with them.  They can look at getting started at a four-year university in our own vicinity.”

This partnership will provide a clear pathway to automatic admissions to almost all UC Merced undergraduate programs for high school juniors who meet the following criteria:

  • Complete all required A-G high school courses (15 total) including 4 years of English and 3 years of math
  • Possess a minimum 3.5 grade point average (GPA)
  • Possess no grade less than a C in any class

“Providing this opportunity for our students who are excelling academically affords them a goal to attain postsecondary education at a University of California campus,” stated Board Trustee Dr. Randy Villegas.
