SLO builders permitted half the number of new homes in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period in 2017. Figures from Construction Monitor show 175 single-family homes were permitted around the county through June 2018 compared to 354 for the first half of last year.
On the commercial side the trend was just the opposite. For the first 6 months of 2018 some 106 major commercial remodels were underway valued at $113 million. For the same period in 2017 there 150 remodel projects but valued at just $20 million.
