March 19,2018-

The term “Miracle March” was coined in 1991 when over 200 inches of snow fell in the Tahoe area of the Sierra in one month. Like this year, snowfall had been paltry through February – 84 inches in 1991 compared 104 inches this season. That’s where the miracle comes in.
In March 1991 mother nature delivered that 200 inch record. So far this March we stand at around 150 inches with big storms still coming in over the next week. Forecast suggest another 3 to 4 feet of snow in the Tahoe area- likely putting us close to that 200 inch measure. The forecast is for an atmospheric river event Wed-Friday that could pile up the precip in the Sierra including up to 4 feet of snow in the Fresno and Tulare mountains. It will also bring 4 to 8 inches of rain to the Central Coast. Another storm will come into the state from the north Monday, March 26.
