Macy’s Visalia to add off-price store

Screen Shot 2018-04-07 at 3.44.21 PMMacy’s plans to carve out about 14,000sf of its existing two-story department store at the Visalia Mall to launch the off-price Backstage store concept here.

With about 45 of these discount outlets around the US the Visalia rollout this June will be one of the first in California and the only Backstage between SF and LA for a while, says Visalia store Manager Raul Diaz.

“I am thrilled to be launching the first Backstage in the Central Valley ” says Diaz, whose family has lived and worked in the area for over 50 years.

”Local customers are going to be pleased.”

“Think of it as a store within a store” with different merchandise than you can find today at Macy’s. The changing array of includes everything from fashion trends, beauty items to shoes and small furniture.

Macy’s says they want to offer a “treasure hunt” experience with a turnover of products often enough to keep the shopper coming back soon. Some describe it as a response to competition from TJ Maxx.

Diaz says the store will hire about 10 to 15 new employees with their own manager.

Already Macy’s is teasing the idea with large signs inside the mall.

Macy’s Backstage will be located on about one quarter of the second floor of the mall store. The entrance will be right next to Houseware and right off the bridge to the 3rd level of the parking structure.

Diaz says Macy’s is doing well nationally and locally adding they have recently revamped their cosmetics department and added mattresses.
