Huntington Beach-based BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse plans to open a Visalia location on Mooney at Caldwell once they demolish the long vacant, former Cask & Cleaver building, once a very popular steakhouse that shuttered in the 1990s.
BJ’s filed a site-plan application with the city to be heard next week.
The publicly traded BJ’s has 204 locations nationwide including in Bakersfield and Fresno.
Considered one of the nation’s top 50 restaurant chains, the eatery includes a brewery within the restaurant, or receives the beer it sells from one of their breweries.
This is their large format restaurant that will employ approximately 110 hourly workers. BJ’s prototype is some 7,500sf with seating for 250. Construction cost for this size format is $4 to 5 million.
For fiscal 2019 the company says it plans to increase the number of restaurant openings to between seven and nine new locations.
BJ’s signature menu offering is deep-dish pizza, which was introduced in 1978. In addition to pizza, they feature Santa Fe Spring Rolls, BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad, Grilled Pork Chops, Chicken Marsala, Cajun Pasta, Fish Tacos, Balsamic Glazed Chicken among others.
