CarMax applies for conditional use permit in Visalia

Used car dealer CarMax has applied for a conditional use permit to open a 5 acre dealership off Mooney in south Visalia with a Visalia Parkway address.

Screen Shot 2019-11-24 at 6.49.02 PMThe news comes after months of speculation about the project.That will mean the project will move to the city planning commission over the next month. If appealed as expected, it will go to the city council.

At issue is the proposed location just off the Mooney strip that councils of the past have said shouldn’t be zoned for car sales. Council may be divided over the issue.

Vice mayor Steve Nelson says there is question of fairness since other car dealers were required to locate in restricted parts of town but that Moooney was said to be off limits. Nelsen also brings up lighting and noise issues that could be a problem for nearby residents. 

CarMax has about 200 locations around the country.

Enterprise Rent Car opening new location in Tulare Looking to open a 4000sf location at 1832 E. Tulare Avenue in Tulare Enterprise Rent A Car cart will open a new location here. The company has applied for a conditional use permit to occupy the new site. The project will include a new paved area at the rear of the property for parking of vehicles as well as interior improvements to the existing building and installation of a new drive approach and installation of sidewalk along Tulare Avenue.The building, across from the Vets Hall was formally occupied by Goodwill.The company is the inly car rental firm in town located now on K St.They expect to move after the first of. the year.

Speaking of car rentals, Express Car Rental wants to open a new agency at 1134 E Douglas near Ben Maddox in Visalia.The company has a location in Bakersfield.

Tulare Local Healthcare District has a buyer (Kings View Behavioral Health) for 793, 795 and 799 N. Cherry Avenue for $360,000. These properties are listed on the City of Tulare line of credit as security and were appraised for the same amount. The net proceed from the sale will be used as a payment against the city’s line of credit once the sale is complete.

In Visalia a local gymnastics school Progression Gymnastics is proposing a new location at 720 E. Main near Burke and Main, a building that was formerly an antique store.

Back on the automotive front Oil Changers will open a new location at Highway 63 and Riggin in Visalia.

Cowboy Burgers & BBQ Restaurant & Retail Store on Plaza will oped

Cowboy Jr. Burgers and BBQ, an Inland Empire-based burger chain, is planning to open a 2,200-square foot restaurant next to the Arco-AM/PM being built on Plaza Drive north of Highway 198. It is the first eatery that will be part of The Square, a 25-acre business research park being developed by 4-Creeks Inc.
