Around Tulare County

March supervisors ballot set

Screen Shot 2019-12-10 at 2.25.41 PMWith three seats up for grabs the March election for Tulare County Board of Supervisors is set. Two of the seats will be contested while Tulare area’s Pete Vander Poel will run again unopposed.

In District 1 incumbent Kuyler Crocker will face two opponents  for the seat, self-employed realtor and former Exeter Mayor Robyn Stearns and retired sheriff Larry Micari. Crocker is running for a second term and notes he is a 5th generation Tulare County farmer.

In District 3 that includes much of  Visalia incumbent Amy Shuklian will be opposed by Visalia realtor Brad Maaske. Shuklian is seeking a second term after besting veteran supervisor Phil Cox in 2016 by 56% to 43.5%.Maaske promises to emphasize family values in his race. Shuklian stresses her  efforts to raise employee pay.

CalTrans Studies Long Awaited Hwy 65 Realignment

Screen Shot 2019-12-10 at 1.57.54 PMCalTrans has opened a comment period over the long awaited realignment project for Highway 65 around Lindsay. Comments are being accepted until January 6.As it is, the highway makes big curve around Lindsay that is considered a traffic hazard and will be eliminated. Cal Trans wants to build a newly aligned Hwy 65 around Lindmore St over to Ave 232.Two new roundabouts would be built along the way.Improvements will also be made at 198.
