Vive Medical products, based in Florida, has opened a 40,000sf distribution facility in the Visalia Industrial park at 1717 Shirk in the former Golden State Overnight hub.Golden State recently built a new complex nearby. Vive offers an online selection of home health supplies and durable medical equipment like scooters. They make their own products.

Downtown Visalia will get new gelato shop / candy store

A new gelato shop -Ciao Cow Creamery will open at 112 E MAIN ST in Downtown Visalia. Also nearby a new candy store- CANDY COTTAGE is opening at 110 W MAIN ST, UNIT B-EAST, Visalia.

Goshen to get cannabis kit maker

Texas-based Ricca Chemical wants to open a distribution plant for their cannabis related chemical and testing kits. The firm’s technology and chemicals are used by the industry for extracting cannabis oil and testing the quality of their products.
But Ricca does not sell or handle cannabis.

Testing kits are used by the cannabis industry to blend terpenes, organic compounds from plants like basil, lemons and rose petals — that can be added to cannabis products and create tasty flavors and aromas. Ricca wants open in an existing warehouse on the north side of Avenue 304, west of Road 68 and State Route 99, in Goshen. They seek a Special Use Permit. A hearing will be held November 28.

Valley cannabis growers are popping up in Woodlake, Coalinga and Farmersville and now they are attracting suppliers.

Kaweah Brewing to open eatery in Visalia

Promising in their application to be a a “family friendly”brew pub, Kaweah Brewing will open a restaurant on north Demaree in the Lowes shopping center.Tenant improvements to remodel the vacant building have been approved at 3222 N DEMAREE ST, UNIT C.

Grocer ALDI to open first Porterville store

Grocery shopping in Porterville just got smarter, faster and easier. ALDI, a leader in the grocery industry, will open its first store in Porterville as part of a $3.4 billion investment to expand to 2,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022.On Thursday December 6, ALDI will open its first Tulare County store in Porterville at 770 S. Jaye Street.
To celebrate the store opening, ALDI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 8:15 a.m. PST, followed by its popular Golden Ticket giveaway offering gift cards to the first 100 customers. Shoppers can also sample ALDI-exclusive brands.

A permit to open a new Indian restaurant, India Gate, has been issued for 700 N Court St in Visalia.

Oscar Mayer Foods Corp/ Kraft/Heinz is seeking a tentative parcel map to create 3 parcels and a remainder from 1 existing approximately 181.54 acre parcel (APNs 228-110-009, 228-110-025, 191-230-001 & 002). The property is currently zoned M-2 (Heavy Industrial). Tulare fruit packer to expand

Sundale Vineyards & Cold Storage received approval forth county planning commission to expand at their location on the west side of Road 140, north of State Route 137. The company wants to build a 164,592 square foot expansion of an existing table grape cold storage and packing facility, located in the AE-40 (Exclusive Agricultural 40 Acre Minimum) Zone.

Pecan Packer gets green light

HNH Nut Co.(Blake Houston) has received approval to expand the state’s only pecan processing and packing facility in Ivanhoe on an 8.4 acre parcel on the west side of Road 160 (State Route 216), south of Avenue 320. Houston says more nut growers are moving to pecans to diversify.There are about 1200 acres under cultivation in the state right now he says.

City of Tulare will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 beginning at 7:00 on an appeal by Loves Travel Center of an EIR and conditional use permit for rival Pilot/Flying J’s proposed fueling complex to be located nearby.

Schwan’s sold to Korea firm for $1.8 billion

Schwan’s Company, a leading U.S. food business, announced this month that it has reached an agreement to sell a majority stake of the company to CJ CheilJedang (CJCJ), of Seoul, South Korea. The price tag according to reliable sources was $1.8 billion.

The transaction will include 80 percent of Schwan’s Company and specific subsidiaries that focus on foods sold in retail and grocery channels and food-service venues. The Schwan family will retain 20 percent ownership in the businesses being sold to CJCJ and will also retain 100 percent ownership in Schwan’s Home Service, Inc., which represents the legacy home-delivery business that Marvin Schwan launched in 1952.
