Kings County prisons face more COVID cases

Kings County COVID cases have spiked in recent days according to the state. At the 2 big state prisons the case count continues to climb.

The state case chart shows a run up in June but new cases are way down recently( see chart) and a resolution of most cases.  Staff infections at Avenal  number 66 to date

UPDATE:

An inmate at Avenal prison died June 20 from “complications related to COVID-19” says the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

It is  the first death related to COVID-19 at the prison and the 19th death statewide at prison facilities.

In Corcoran, the cases are still ramping higher, rising now to 153 with most of them active and 24 staff infected.

Kings County reports that COVID case related to the prisons number 1127 compared to 964 in the county not related to the prisons.

California has 169,309 confirmed cases to date. Kings County has 49 patients in the hospital with active non-prison cases numbering  454.There have been 10 deaths

Treehouse Almonds has taken out a $10 million building permit for new 100,000sf warehouse to be built a their Earlimart facility in Tulare County. The company announced last year they would be expand their operation in Earlimart in phases.The plant employs around 124.

Almond prices this summer have been “on their knees” confesses the June 11 Treehouse Almond Market Update with a the big upcoming 2020 crop of around 3 billion lbs. “Buyers have been both intrigued and nervous, seeing levels as cheap as we have seen in the past decade but nervous that further erosion is still possible. Sellers have been reluctant to sell at levels which will mean losses for some growers, but also having to face the reality of a swelling carry-over into next season and what appears to be a very good crop on the trees.”

The company said May almond shipment both domestic and for export were down year over year. China /Vietnam shipments declined 59%. Almond prices in 2019 were $2.39 to $2.50 per pound.But this summer they are $1.50 to $1.60.
