Discounter Fallas Stores closes in Visalia – Now in Tulare

National Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August. The discount fabric and clothing chain operates a number of stores in California including Fallas, Factory 2-U and Anna’s Linens. Some 74 stores closed in August and now more Valley stores are either shuttered or soon will be, but not all.

In September the Fallas store Anna’s Linens, at 3446 S Mooney Blvd near Caldwell closed their doors and now the Tulare location at the Village Shopping Center will close before Christmas says an employee at the store.

Still open is the Fallas location in Hanford and one in Fresno. Adding to the closure of the first 74 stores another 180 locations nationwide are expected to close in the process.

National Stores is owned by Michael Fallas, who took over the company from his father, Joseph. The chain caters mainly to the Latino market. Its first store opened in downtown Los Angeles at Broadway and Fourth Street in the 1960s.

The retail chain, in its bankruptcy documents filed on Aug. 6 said it had $111.4 million in liabilities with assets listed between $100 million and $500 million
