Eggs take a deep dive

Egg prices took a deep dive in the past week selling wholesale in California for under $1 a dozen say USDA.. That is down from $1.50 a dozen a week ago and down from $3 a dozen this time last year. Wholesale prices don’t reflect what you are paying retail but earlier in April Costco was selling 2 dozen cage free eggs for $5.99 and Walmart has a current price of $2.67 a dozen.Target is at $3.59 a dozen. Egg prices in California were routinely above $7 a dozen a year ago. A bird flu epidemic helped boost prices when millions of egg laying chickens died.Helping to lower prices now is the return of the flock as well as lower feed costs.
