California/Tulare County population growing
A new report from the state Department of Finance says California added 309,000 residents in 2017 bringing our state total population to 38.8 million. Tulare County grew 1.1% to just under 476,000 residents. Within the county, the city of Tulare grew the most by 2.2 percent to 65,982 followed by Visalia increasing population by 1.8 percent to 136,246.
Tulare permits show gain
Residential and commercial building permits in Tulare city are up so far this calendar year according to Construction Monitor. New home permits number 129 valued at $32 million vs 117 valued at $24 million through the same time in 2017. Tulare’s commercial permits value are near double this year to $8 million vs $4.7 million through early May 2017.
Visalia permits looking up
New home permits in Visalia number 170 through early May vs 147 for the same period in 2017.Commercial permits number 71 valued at $24 million vs 63 permits valued at $13 million through early May 2017.
Farmersville hires new city manager
The City of Farmersville has hired Jennifer Gomez to the position of City Manager as of May 9. Ms Gomez formerly worked at the City of Hanford and City of Tulare.

The former Searcy’s Cafe at 1143 E Houston may be serving two over easy again.Renee Anderson wants to remodel the space and expand it calling it Granny’s Cafe.

G&R Mechanics is looking to locate at 1140 N Ben Maddox in Visalia, a spot vacated by ESM Glass. The glass company moved to Kelsey and Doe in the industrial park.G& R offer ag-related hardware.
Private school could offer ag vocational instruction
Bakersfield-based RIMM Resource wants to locate a new vocational ag school for adults with disabilities in Visalia. The site is a 10 acre property at 26814 So Mooney, south of Mooney’s Grove.The county approved its use on ag-zoned land. Students could be dropped off by car.car.The school would employ about 15 people.
Woodalke To Get Ag Biz
Buttonwillow Warehouse Co will locate a fertilizer and chemical businesses at the northeast corner of Deltha and Acacia in Woodlake . Founded in 1948, the Buttonwillow Warehouse Co is a family owned and operated business with over sixty years of experience in California agriculture. Started as a grain elevator and warehouse, the company diversified into distributing fertilizers and crop protection products in the early 1970’s.
Over the last 45 years, BWC has grown to 11 retail fertilizer and crop protection locations covering over 9 different counties in California The project will require a Conditional Use Permit from the city
