Visalia Macy’s, Kmart & Sears Spared In Latest Round Of Closures

screen-shot-2017-01-05-at-11-57-46-am“It’s official – the Visalia Macy’s store will stay open” says Richard Feder, general manager of the Visalia Mall in an email to the Visalia City Council this week.No Valley Macy’s locations will close even though the company announced Wednesday it would shutter 68 stores nationwide. California will see closure of Macy’s stores in Santa Barbara,North Hollywood,Simi Valley Town Center in Simi Valley, Mission Valley Apparel in San Diego.
Last summer a report surfaced that suggested the Visalia Macy’s was at risk of shutting down.At the time mall manager Feder discounted the idea saying the store is profitable. Macy’s rents the store from mall owner General Growth.
Sears/Kmart also made two announcements in recent weeks saying 150 stores would close in 2017. But no Sears stores in the Valley were on the list and only Kmart locations in Bakersfield, Coalinga and Kingsburg will shut their doors in March. Visalia’s Sears and Kmart are spared for now.
