They look like jellyfish but they are called Velella that are washing ashore in SLO County with hundreds on the beach at tiny Spooners Cove in Montana De Oro yesterday when this pic was taken. The blue-tinted gelatinous creature creatures are not an unusual sight in these coastal waters although the winds and warm ocean water may have blown them ashore in larger numbers this year. The creatures do have a stinging mechanism but is not dangerous to humans. Warmer sea temps are causing an influx of sea life from more tropical waters say experts.
