Jobless rate climbs in Tulare County

The unemployment rate in Tulare County was 10.0 percent in May 2023, up from a revised 9.8 percent in April 2023, and above the year-ago estimate of 7.0 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.5 percent for California and 3.4 percent for the nation during the same period.

Tulare County’s jobless rates climbed in part due to increased unemployment in agriculture with 600 fewer jobs year over year. Non-farm jobs were up almost 4000 year over year but that was less than the increase in the county’s labor force – up about 6000 in the year.
