Rainfall totals in Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park have already exceeded all last water year as well as the drought year before. The chart below is as of January 7 2023.The abundant rain with an expected deluge in coming weeks is welcome by water users all over the the Kaweah watershed and farmers who depend on the flow and the forest and criterswho live there.
The area burned out of control last year killing thousands of Giant Sequoias in several massive firestorms.
The average rainfall in Giant Forest is 42 inches.Recent years are a fraction of that average.
Bottom graph shows the Tulare Lake Basin including Giant Forest on track to replicate the wettest year 68/69. But only if this parade of storms pattern continues.
