perspective from John Lindt
How’s President Trump’s tariffs worked out for American business?
While Trump this week said he would reimpose aluminum tariffs on Canada, Joe Biden was asked if he would keep the tariffs on China?
“No. Hey, look, who said Trump’s idea’s a good one?” said Biden. “Manufacturing has gone into a recession. Agriculture lost billions of dollars that taxpayers had to pay.”
The international trade war was launched by Trump in 2018 and US producers have been the victims of retaliation since.
Today Canada announced it would retaliate against Trump by imposing tariffs on $2.7 billion worth of U.S. goods their Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford lambasted the tariffs on Friday, lashing out at Trump and encouraging Canadians to buy local products instead of U.S. goods in protest.
