VISALIA, CA – The Visalia City Council are pleased to announce that Mary Beatie and Adam Peck have been appointed to the Visalia Planning Commission.

“The City Council interviewed five potential candidates, ultimately naming Mary Beatie and Adam Peck as the two new Commissioners,” shared Paul Bernal, City Planner. “Both will serve the Planning Commissioner term length of two years, Commissioners can serve a maximum total of four terms.”

The Visalia Planning Commission is comprised of five voting members who have been appointed by the City Council to review and act on matters related to planning and development.

The Planning Commission plays a central role in the planning process as an advisory board to the City Council on planning and development issues, assures that the general plan is implemented by reviewing discretionary development entitlements on a case-by-case basis, and functions as the decision-making body for many land development proposals.

“The role of the Planning Commissioners requires a significant commitment of time to learn the nuances of the City’s subdivision and zoning ordinances, adopted development standards, environmental statutes, and understanding the role they serve in providing recommendations on land use matters to the City Council,” added Curtis Cannon, Community Development Director.

The Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at City Hall West, 707 W. Acequia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meeting locations may change, however any changes will be noted on the meeting agenda and at www.visalia.city.
