Three Rivers newspaper – Kaweah Commonwealth ends print publication – 3Rnews.com is born

After some 24 years of weekly publication the Kaweah Commonwealth newspaper is no longer doing a print edition with its last issue in April. But editor John Elloitt says Three Rivers can still get the news since “we’ve gone digital.” John and wife Sarah have launched 3Rnews.com, a website with all the news from Three Rivers and Sequoia Park.

This week Elloitt says they are doing a story on a nature trail in Mineral King complete with new signage and will publish news on efforts statewide to make foothill towns “fire safe communities.”

Bearpaw Meadow High Sierra Camp shuttered this summer

Bearpaw 2019-08-22 at 1.36.59 PMPopular High Sierra camp Bearpaw Meadow is closed this summer and will not open for the foreseeable future says a Delaware North representative. Snow damage forced the closing of the small visitor camp some 11.5 miles east of Crescent Meadow in Sequoia Park.The camp is along the High Sierra Trail.Typically the camp is open only after snow clears from late June through September.The camp provides a tent cabin , hot showers and home cooked meals with a wine list to boot. It’s luxury in the back country.

Tulare may rejoin EDC

The City of Tulare may rejoin he Tulare County Economic Development Corporation. The city council this week supported a measure by City Manager Rob Hunt to place  rejoining the agency on the agenda at council’s next meeting in September. The EDC is asking Tulare to rejoin the group at a rate of $36,456 a year, less than they paid in the past year. The fiscal year begins in July. Earlier this year the County decided to rejoin the EDC.

More clinics in the works around Tulare County

Health agencies continue to launch more federally supported clinics around the  county. Now Porterville’s Sierra View is building a new $1 million,3800sf clinic in Terra Bella. Plans are underway by Altura Center for Health in Tulare to open a new clinic in Woodville.In Tulare Altura is also building a series of new clinical services buildings near Hillman and Cartmill. Not to be outdone in Tulare, Adventist Health who took over operation of the Tulare Hospital is now building a new 17,015 sq. ft. medical clinic that will provide outpatient medical and dental services to the community. The facility will be located on the West side of Hillman Street between Corvina and Cartmill Avenues in Tulare. Adventist is  also working on re-opening a clinic in Earlimart that was shuttered by Tulare hospital. Also new in Tulare, Family Healthcare Network will lease the former Hillman Health Center from the County, FHCN announced. Lastly Kaweah Delta appear to be interested in building a new clinic in Tulare on Mooney, south of Prosperity.

Bakersfield-based Omni Family Health who opened a new clinic  in Visalia, a block from Kaweah Delta, in January has now opened a new clinic in Lindsay.They have a clinic in Dinuba where they compete with Valley Health who bought Alta Family Health Clinic late last year and Kaweah Delta who already has a clinic in that town.Also Family HealthCare Network (FHCN) recently formalized an agreement with San Joaquin Prime Care Medical Corp (SJPC) to take over its health centers in Exeter, Farmersville, Reedley and Squaw Valley.
