No bologna…California ‘Lunchables’ plant closing

Screen Shot 2018-11-28 at 5.59.52 AMSome 248 employees at the Fullerton California Kraft/Heinz plant are losing their jobs this month according to a state WARN notice just published. The November 27 notice says the jobs lost are permanent. The plant makes the iconic Lunchables snack food line, a fixture on grocery shelves for the past 30 years.

Kraft had announced in 2016 that it would close the facility but offered a reprieve suggesting the popularity of kid-favorite meat, cheese and cracker snack food had changed their plans.

The LA-area plant is represented by the Teamsters Union.

The 170,000-square-foot manufacturing facility makes the Lunchables, described as a packaged all-in-one meal for school-age children that was first launched in 1989. It was one of three U.S. plants that made the lunches
