Porterville Super Walmart To Open In 2018

After battling with determined opponents for almost a decade Walmart and the City of Porterville have been given the green light to build a planned superstore in Porterville. Earlier this fall the opponents settled with the defendants. Sources say the company will not open the big store that sells both groceries and general merchandise until the 4th quarter of 2018.

Kings suffers outward migration

The latest population estimate from the state Department of Finance shows California gaining 275,000 new residents while Kings County lost 295 people between July 1,2015 and July 1,2016. The decline in the numbers here continue a trend ongoing for several years. The county grew – based on natural growth – 2253 births vs 809 deaths but migration elsewhere- those leaving Kings County was sizable at 2044 people while just 305 immigrated here. The net migration was 1739. Kings County’s population is now 149,470 but it was 152,175 in 2010- six years ago- largely due to people leaving the county for other locations.
By contrast neighboring Tulare County grew by nearly 5000 in the past year to 468,235.
California’s birth rate declined to 12.42 births per 1,000 population from 13.69 births per 1,000 population in 2010 Census – the lowest level in California’s history. As the baby boomer generation advances towards retirement ages, the death rate has slowly increased to 6.71 deaths per 1,000 population. In 2010, the death rate was 6.26.
Net migration added 70,000 persons to California last year. Net migration includes all legal and unauthorized foreign immigrants, residents who left the state to live abroad, and the balance of the hundreds of thousands of people who move to and from California from within the United States. Bay Area counties had the largest increase in net migration in the state attracted by their strong economy.
Harris Ranch Plans I-5 Medical Clinic

Harris Ranch has applied to Fresno County to build a 1647sf medical clinic for their employees at the Harris Ranch complex located next to Hwys 198 and I-5.
