As of August 14, 2015, Tulare County’s Environmental Health has approved over 3,821 drilling permits for wells (increase of 39 from previous report) since January 1, 2014.
Milk Prices Hit Bottom?
Dairy famers have been complaining about prices that are about $2 below the cost of production can take some cheer from the closely watched Global Dairy Trade index that after dropping all of 2015 bounced higher at the latest product auction by 15% on milk products scheduled to be shipped in the next 3 to 6 months.”We may have hit the bottom”says Hanford diary operator Joaquin Contente.
CDFA says Tulare County dairymen produced 2.4% less milk during the first half of 2015 vs the same period in 2014. From January to April 2015, the average mailbox milk price paid to California producers was $14.62/cwt. (a $8.18/cwt. decrease compared to $22.80/cwt. for the first four months of 2014)
Olive Crop Up Over 60 Percent
The 2015 California table olive forecast is 60,000 tons, up 62 percent from last year’s crop of 37,120 tons, according to a survey conducted by the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Bearing acreage is estimated at 18,000 acres.Tulare County acreage is 12,000. The crop is alternate bearing which has an impact on annul production.
Walnut Exports Down Slightly – Almond Exports Drop 9%
California walnut growers are seeing somewhat lower export sale of inshell nuts ,down 11% so far this year while exports of shelled pounds are up 18%. Added together exports are down just slightly.
In almonds state exports are down 9% so far this year through July.
Both commodities have been hurt by the stronger US dollar that makes our products more expensive overseas.
