Around Tulare County: Two New Hotels In Works/More

Chinese Investors Plan Hwy 99 Hotel

screen-shot-2016-09-21-at-8-09-21-amEB-5 investors group Monterey Dynasty is requesting approval by the City of Tulare for a 5-story hotel to be built at the Cartmill interchange in Tulare. The Cupertino-based group works with foreign investors, many of them Chinese, seeking a green card if they invest at least $500,000 in development projects in the US in areas of high unemployment. The EB-5 program has brought in Chinese investors to sink into projects in Delano, a Walmart shopping center, in Tipton where a cheese plant is under construction, and in Tulare where this same group is helping to finance the Bethel Assembly of God Church retirement village, a $105 million development to provide senior housing, assisted living, and Alzheimer’s/dementia care.The complex is planned to open in 2017. According to a public notice, this same group, Monterey Dynasty is seeking a conditional use permit to build a 24,500sf hotel with 136-rooms that includes a restaurant and bar, outdoor wedding venue and convention center at the southwest corner of Cartmill and Hwy 99 with access off M Street. The city Planning Commission will hold a hearing October 10 on the project.

Three Rivers Hotel Causes Stir

A proposal to build a 125-unit, 3 story hotel on 8.4 acres in Three Rivers along the Kaweah River is causing a stir in town. The application being reviewed by County – was the subject of a Three Rivers Community Service District meeting last week.”People are concerned about the septic system and traffic” says CSD General Manager Cindy Howell. The visitor complex is being proposed by Hitesh Patel of Pleasanton would be located next to the post office, across the highway from the Comfort inn. Just to what extent the county’s environmental review will go remains to be seen. The site is on the westside of 198 between Old Three Rivers Dr and South Fork Dr. Howell says the foothill community does need more hotel rooms.

Tulare County Jobless Rate Falls

The EDD reports that the unemployment rate in the Tulare County was 10.7 percent in August 2016, down from a revised 11.2 percent in July 2016, and unchanged the year-ago estimate of 10.7 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.6 percent for California and 5.0 percent for the nation during the same period. The economy generated 2900 more nonfarm jobs in August 2016 compared to August 2015.

Bearpaw Meadow High Sierra Camp is a full-service tent campground in Sequoia National Park. The camp has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places this year. Weather permitting, it is open mid June to mid September. The camp is located about 12 miles east of Giant Forest on the High Sierra Trail. Access to the trail is at Crescent Meadow.

Self-Help Enterprises plans a large multi family development in Goshen near its other Goshen Village project.Located on the south side of Avenue 312 (Riggin) between Roads 72 & 76, the 126 apartment unit complex will sit on on a 6.85-acres.The County Planning Commission will take up the project on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at 9:00 a.m.
