Can’t keep independent journalism down.
A few weeks ago the Tulare Voice led by editor Julie Fernandez and local investor Phil Smith restarted as an online weekly newspaper and now Visalia’s Valley Voice newspaper is coming back as both a print and online community paper. Founded in 1979 in Visalia the publication was last printed in December 2011.
Restarting the Valley Voice will be husband and wife team Catherine Doe and Joseph Oldenbourg. Cathrine wrote for the free paper before and her father Russ Doe was an investor. The paper succumbed from tough economic times. But now papers for both towns are back. Each now is independent of one another.
“We are going on-line May 30th and will be in the racks June 6th.” says Doe.
“The Valley Voice is going to be about the same as it was, water, ag, politics and farm issues. The only new section is we have a Student Life page” she adds.
