Building Permits Stay Strong In May

Visalia building permits are up nearly 50% this year vs last based on valuation. Totals are over $108 million through May of this year vs $72 million over the same months of 2014. Continuing to stay strong are home building permits up 38% so far this year and 42% on valuation. In May, Visalia permitted 30 new homes compared to 26 in May 2014.

Holiday Inn Express

A new 104 room Holiday Inn Express is in the works with the developer seeking a conditional-use permit next week at the Visalia Planning  Commission. A Bakersfield developer wants to build the five- story hotel on Cypress west of Akers on one half of a 3.68 acre parcel,with the second parcel slated for another hotel as well.

Plaza Holiday Inn Name Change

The Holiday Inn on Plaza will get a new name- the owner,Hotel Group LLC, announced recently.The  256-room  property at 9000 W. Airport Drive, will become Wyndham Visalia. Shaw Hotel Group LLC has owned the property since 2004. The hotel will get a $6 million upgrade this fall.

Industrial Park Buildings Coming

Diversified Development owner John Brelsford says the planned 402,000 sf spec project in the Visalia Industrial Park will begin construction this summer and likely be ready for occupancy by the end of the year. The 3 buildings are being offered for lease as the park has few vacant buildings for lease.

Mall Stores Makeover

The LIDS sporting goods store at the Visalia Mall is slated for a remodel this summer. Also at Visalia Mall there are plans for remodeling  of Auntie Anne’s and Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brew this year.

Visalia First Assembly of God congregation is building a $12 million new sanctuary on their property on Akers to seat 3000. The space includes a Commons area for community art displays and events.
