June 15,2016
Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 4.59.13 PMVisalia Mayor Steve Nelsen received an email letter dated today from co-president of Nordstrom Inc, Erik Nordstrom, thanking the city for working with them on the potential 1875 job ‘fulfillment’ center the city has been vying for. The key sentence in the letter says because of the “current environment” they have “reevaluated the timing” and would not open an e-commerce distribution center until 2020. ”We look forward to continued conversations in the future” the letter concludes with a sign of hope. City development staffer Devon Jones told council. ”It’s not over yet, but it will be awhile before Nordstrom prioritizes this decision.”
“Of course we are disappointed” says Steve Nelsen.”But at least we are still in the running.I remain hopeful if it comes to California we have a good chance.” Visalia and Fresno are in a friendly rivalry to capture the jobs from the big project. No word if Fresno got a similar letter.
