Bridge Would Tie Mooney Walmart to Lowe’s

Property owner Dave Paynter wants to tie his Sequoia Plaza shopping center anchored by Walmart and Ashley Furniture, to Cameron Ave at the Lowe’s parking entrance. Porterville To Get Habit Burger

A building permit has been issued to Habit Burger for a location in Porterville,for 2,650 square feet at the northeast corner of Henderson and Prospect.

No Cut to Sequoia Monument?

Press reports suggest the Trump administration is unlikely to cut the size of the Sequoia National Monument after all. Set aside 17 years ago by Bill Clinton, some locals have argued the government overreached when they protected such a large area, 327,769 acres of national forest that includes sequoia trees. Supervisor Steve Worthley says the the designation makes it harder to remove the millions of dead trees in the region.

A list of recommended cuts from Department of Interior’s Secretary, Ryan Zinke to Mr. Trump, was obtained by the Washington Post this weekend but did not include the Tulare County land.

Jobless Rate Stands At 10.6 Percent

The rate is higher than a year ago based on the larger labor market as more people are in the workforce now. The EDD reports year-over-year 3900 new jobs have been created including 100 more farm jobs. But 800 more residents are unemployed from Aug 2016 to Aug 2017.
