Visalia Job Fair Coming

Screen Shot 2017-04-22 at 2.09.34 PMThe Visalia Economic Development Corporation will hold a job fair in the Visalia Industrial Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, at Hilti, 7940 W. Doe Ave. Employers expected to participate are Hilti, Jo Ann Stores Distribution Center, VF Outdoor, VWR, Seals Construction, Electric Motor Shop, Jostens, California Dairies, Western Milling and Fresno Pacific University. United Staffing Associates will also participate. Job openings include warehouse, inventory control, maintenance mechanic, machinist, construction superintendent, construction manager, estimator, sales and forklift operators.

Farm Bureau Mural Dedication May 11

Screen Shot 2017-04-22 at 10.56.37 AMTulare County Farm Bureau will dedicate ether new ag mural on Thursday, May 11 at 6:00 pm. The reception will be held at the Farm Bureau office at 737 N. Ben Maddox Way in Visalia.The reception will host Colleen Veyna, the mural artist, and Jana Botkin, whose artwork for the cover of the Farm Bureau’s art coloring book and 2017 Source Book was inspired by Veyna’s mural. Jana Botkin’s art coloring book depicting agricultural images will also be available for purchase that night, and both artists will be in attendance to visit with our members about their art.

Soda Tax Cuts Sales

Sweetened soda sales in Berkeley, California dropped 9.6% one year after a 1c-per-oz tax was implemented, while sales increased 6% in other Bay area stores without a tax, according to a study conducted by the Public Health Institute and the University of North Carolina published April 18 in PLOS Medicine.
Sales of diet soft drinks and diet energy drinks fell by 9.2% during the same period, the study results indicated. Conversely, the sale of untaxed “healthy” beverages increased by 3.5%, water rose by 5.6%, fruit, vegetable or tea drinks rose by 4.3% and plain milk rose by 0.63%, the study said.

Clothing/Drug Store Stores Closure

The rue 21 store in Hanford will close but not the one at the Tulare Outlet mall.
CVS closed stores in Madera and Visalia as part of a cost-cutting plan that will close 70 stores this year. The Visalia store at 2135 N. Dinuba Blvd shut down March 11 leaving an empty building at the shopping center there.

Visalia Holds Miki Park Dedication

Saturday, April 22nd marked the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of Visalia’s newest park, Miki City Park. Located on the northwest corner of Mineral King Avenue and Johnson Street, the Miki City Park ribbon cutting and dedication celebrates 50 years of Visalia and Miki, Japan as sister cities. Featuring drought tolerant landscaping and cultural touches honoring Miki, the 1/3 acre park opening will be attended by a delegation of guests from Miki.

Family Billiards Coming To Visalia

Plaza Drive, Visalia Parkway and Mineral King Plaza Shopping Center could all see new development underway, as proposals are rolling through the review and approval process.
Additional restaurants, and potentially retail space, are being proposed on Plaza Drive just northwest of the Chevron at Plaza and Crowley. The new spaces are setup for fast casual offerings, including a drive thru, while a mini-market and gas station are being proposed at the southwest corner of Visalia Parkway and Demaree. With numerous commercial spaces, there are a total of four building pads (in addition to the mini-market) that would be located west of recently proposed multi-family and single family housing.The shopping center on Mineral King that is home to Roller Towne and Chuck E. Cheese may soon feature a family billiards location. The popular center already has the new Quantum Leap trampoline park and a Fitness Evolution gym.

Western Auto Plans New Store in Woodlake

Auto parts store Western Auto will build a new store on the north side of Valencia near the Dollar General in Woodlake later this year. The company is going through the permitting process with city.
